Serendipitous Sightings #3

The other day I was sitting at the window seat of my local coffee shop when I saw an Uber car pull up right in front of the apartment building next door. Inside was a guy with brown hair in a light blue checkered shirt, and sitting beside him, a blond girl with a pink blouse. The car came to a stop and the guy pushed the door open, and without missing a BEAT, slammed it shut behind him.

That girl’s face was a sight to see.

She was equally shocked and horrified, but covered by starting to laugh. It was a hesitant laugh, though. You know, like when you’re offended by something someone finds funny, and you just try to laugh it off…it was like that. It was clear that she was actually hurt by his carelessness and thoughtlessness. I would be too! Who wouldn’t be??

And the worst part (as if that wasn’t bad enough) was that HE DIDN’T EVEN REALIZE IT at first. It wasn’t until he had rounded the car and was waiting at the trunk for the driver to pop it open that it suddenly occurred to him that the girl hadn’t followed behind…

Was it an accident? How could it be, though? YOU JUST SHARED AN ENTIRE CAR RIDE WITH HER DUDE. HOW COULD YOU JUST, OOPS, FORGET TO LEAVE THE DOOR OPEN FOR HER TO GET OUT TOO???

He started walking back to the door when she pushed it open, slightly laughing. Taking her queue, he started laughing too. You could tell he felt bad… They started mouthing Hahaha… / I’m so sorry, I didn’t realize! / No it’s totally okay, I know it was an accident, I was just like, a little shocked… to each other. I felt awkward for them.

She finally got out of the car and he brought out both of their suitcases. They kept sort of laughing, trying to find the humor in the mishap as they rolled up to the building.
